Baby Advice - Six Tips For Frazzled New Parents

Being a parent is not something you can really prepare for. No matter how many books you read, though they will probably have a lot of good advice, new parents will always find themselves frazzled at one point or another. Although being frazzled is one of the joys of parenthood, there are a few ways to help minimize the stress you will feel during the first few weeks of parenthood.

1. Plan ahead

There are lots of things you can do to plan ahead. Set clothes aside for when your baby spoils their clothes. Make casseroles up ahead of time and freeze them so you won’t have to cook. Don’t wait for the middle of the night to get those bottles prepared. Make up as many bottles as you will need in the next 24 hours and store them in the refrigerator. In doing so, you won’t have to stumble around at 3 in the morning spilling formula all over the floor why you try to make a bottle!

2. Have patience

Adjusting to the sounds of a screaming baby can be a nerve racking experience. Don’t stress yourself out if your baby doesn’t calm herself instantly when you pick her up. Sometimes your baby will cry inconsolably. Do your best to make her comfortable but don’t worry if she doesn’t stop crying immediately. It’s natural.

3. Know what to expect

Although you won’t ever know exactly to expect, read as many baby books as you can before your baby gets here (because you certainly won’t have time after she does!) so you know what you might expect with your baby. It’s helpful to find out how much your baby should be eating, when to introduce new foods, what diaper rash looks like compared to chicken pox.

4. Sleep when your baby sleeps

The first few weeks can be rough on new parents. The sleepless nights and midnight feedings all while recuperating from the actual birth can really take their toll on parents. It’s very important that you don’t try to do too much for the first week or so. When your baby naps, you should nap too so you have the energy to get up with her at night.

5. Invite a family member over

During the first few weeks, you may want to think about having a family member come stay with you to help out. You probably won’t feel much like cooking or cleaning at first. You will want to spend your time getting to know your new baby and sleeping. Having a family member around can be a lifesaver because they can help you get your chores done. They will also appreciate the time they get to spend with your new baby and will gladly help you out because of it.

6. Enjoy your new baby

It may seem silly, but enjoy your new baby. Don’t let the stress of the lost sleep get to you. Enjoy every minute you get to spend with your new baby because you won’t ever get those minutes back. Your baby will be the most precious thing you’ve ever seen don’t spend your time being so frazzled, spend your time enjoying the company of your new baby.
